Valentines Fun!

We had sick kids throughout February. When you have four children it takes almost a month to get the bug through everyone and out of the house. On one hand I wish they'd all get sick at once because no matter how hard I try to keep sick ones quarantined, everyone eventually gets it. But then again I am not sure I could handle four sick kids at once! So there is some wisdom in that. We are finally all healthy, but it made it so we had to cut out some things this year.

We still did have some fun Valentines activities this month. First of all I found these cute mailboxes for a dollar a piece and we all decorated them and have been leaving love notes for each other. The kids like them so much that we have decided to leave them up! It has been a fun and easy way to spread the love. There is a level of excitement when you see the flag of your mail box up and know someone was thinking about you! Aren't they cute?!
Nick was able to enjoy his class party, Tatiana was sick for hers (poor sweetheart!). I brought in Andrew and helped. Yes, once again I organized both parties being the room parent for both. Even though Tatiana wasn't there, that's how it goes sometimes. Nick had a great time though and I was able to take Tatiana in before school on Monday to hand out her homemade valentine bookmarks on everyone's desks.
Nick's teacher did something I think was great. She had each child, as their writing assignment for the previous week, write letters to all their class mates. These letters were to be in the format; "Dear ___, I think you are ____ because ____. I also ________ . Thank you for ______.( etc, etc) Sincerely, Nick" It made all the kids have to look at each other in a different way and look for good in one another and it was a such a self esteem builder for the kids. Nick received letters telling him how smart he is, how funny he is, how nice he is because he is always helping. Thanking him for helping them with their math, or reading with them. Complimenting him on a great job on a particular art project, etc. They were so great to read! Yep, we have a fantastic kid! They also made these houses. Cute!
