Today at church, Nick was caught doing something that I feel was pretty great and I was caught with tears in my eyes.
Nick and his good friend, Nico (you know the twins) came out in the hall and saw me. Nick asked if I knew if their teacher was here and I said I hadn't seen him. Nico said he hadn't seen him at church yet, so he didn't think he was there. I told them to go back to class and I would get a sub for them.
Nick's class is all boys, ages 10-11, and there is about 10 boys in his class. I found someone who was willing to sub right away and was heading to my class. I heard some commotion coming from Nick's classroom so I decided to go check it out and calm them down before the sub came in. All these boys used to be my Cubs before they got too old for the program so I felt I still had some residual authority left there, plus I am a mom...there is no authority higher than that!
I open the door and poke my head in and see and hear complete chaos between three boys in the back of the room. They are wrestling and being rowdy...no teacher...yahoo! I first tell them to calm down and find a seat because their sub is coming. Then I notice several boys sitting nicely in their seats already looking to the front of the room where I am a little surprised to see Nick, my adorable son, and Nico, his adorable twin, standing at the head of the class reading from the scriptures and giving a little mini-lesson! I was so impressed! Tears of pride swelled in my eyes. I am so proud of our eldest son, Nick! He is such an amazing kid! Not only did he act responsibly and not goof off, but he went beyond just sitting around waiting for a teacher to show up. He took the leadership role, along with his friend, and led the class! He taught them something AND was an example to them! Man, I LOVE THAT KID!!!!
Here is the scripture they read and what they said;
Doctrine and Covenants 130:18-19
"Whatever principle of intelligence we attain unto in this life, it will rise with us in the resurrection. And if a person gains more knowledge and intelligence in this life through his diligence and obedience than another, he will have so much the advantage in the world to come. "
Nick then said something like, "we need to gain knowledge and intelligence by studying hard and listening."
Then Nico said something like, "we have to have diligence"
Then Nick said, "and obedience."
Then they sat down and the other teacher came in past me and I left. I was so very impressed!
I just LOVE THAT KID SO MUCH!
