Fun at the Fire Stations!

One Saturday every October the Albany Fir Department puts on a wonderful day learning all about fire safety and what these great men and women do to help our community. Have two little boys who are obsessed with all things "Fireman" (remember this post?), we had to go! There are four fire stations here and we were only able to visit two, but I think we were able to see some of the coolest things!

We started off at the fire station closest to our house where they said a life flight helicopter would be landing at 10AM. We got there plenty early and had great seats! The helicopter flew right over our heads! It was SO CLOSE if felt as if I could reach up and touch it! We all though that was pretty awesome!

Here it comes!

"Whoa, mommy! That too windy!"

The helicopter has landed, but Ben still has his fingers in his ears. Funny boy.

Waiting in line to get inside. This is going to be so great! Andrew brought his "fire dog".

Nick reading this educational board to Ben and showing him the pictures. Ben wants so badly to be a fireman someday!

He is off to a great start, look at him lug that heavy hose! Way to go Ben!

Then his partner, Tatiana, pulls a heavy weight across the floor. Good girl!

Captain Nick pounds with the sledge hammer. Such strength!

And they all also had turns on the hose. Isn't Andrew so cute!?

Then finally they were able to climb into the helicopter. So cool!!!!

Then we went to the next fire station where they were serving free hot dogs for lunch!

Posing in an antique fire engine...

And we watched a demonstration on the "Jaws of Life"! Andrew kept saying, "uh-oh, mommy, the car broke mommy, need fix it mommy..." over and over again. He was quite concerned that they were ripping this car apart. The rest of us thought it was pretty cool though!

And of course we got to climb in the ambulance. I preferred to stay out, I have had to ride in these way too much in my lifetime, no thank you! I would LOVE to be a paramedic someday though, it has been a dream of mine for quite some time. Maybe someday. (Maybe Ben and I can work together!)

Here is "future" firefighter Ben with the real firefighter Ben! Firefighter Ben was one of the men doing the jaws of life demonstration and Ben looked at me with a giggle every time the "narrator" would say "firefighter Ben is now..." or something like that. So we had to get a picture.

Cute kids!

Learning the ropes...

Okay! I'm ready for my first call!

(Doesn't he just look so tiny in that big truck?!?)
