Great Grandma Clara

Saturday, August 28th, was Nathan's grandma's (the kids' great grandma's) 90th birthday! We drove over to eastern Oregon to help celebrate with her. It was a fast trip (arriving there around 10:00PM on Friday, and leaving after church on Sunday to come home) but it was worth it. Nathan even gave up the opening weekend of hunting season to be there for his grandma. Not everyone makes it to 90! And grandma Clara is such an amazing woman that she deserved a big celebration! She is still so healthy and able-bodied. I am always very impressed by her! She has about 170 descendants and over 100 people (all but a few were descendants) were at her surprise birthday party that they held at the church. She was very surprised and very touched! It was such a good day!

Here is Uncle Dave bringing Grandma in for her surprise. We were all singing "Families Can Be Together Forever" (100 voices, it was pretty awesome) and then once she walked through the door we changes to "Happy Birthday To You!" She was so happy she cried, so did many of the rest of us!

She is talking, not smiling, in this picture but I put it on here for two reasons. One is that she is looking through one of her birthday gifts. Nathan's Aunt Karen made her a book of all her paintings. At least all the ones she could find and that have been done when she made the book. Grandma has painted several more since then, including finishing one on her birthday! She is VERY TALENTED! We have one of her paintings in our home and I just love it! The other reason for this picture is you can see her amazing blue eyes really well!

The kid table!

Andrew eating some birthday cane with Nathan's cousin, Austin. Mmmmm, good!

Andrew also loved the cantaloupe and as everyone was cleaning up at the end, he was doing his part to clean out the fruit bowl!

Ben with his great grandma Clara. So sweet!

Tatiana hanging out with Nathan's cousin, Tracy. Both of them are the only sister and have three brothers! Kindred spirits I tell you.

Nick and Andrew playing a game with the cousins.

On the drive home we stopped to take a look at this "Prehistoric Riverbed". Pretty cool.

It was a wonderful weekend! Happy 90th Birthday Grandma Clara!!!!!
